A Fresh Batch of Questions with Genghis Con
A Fresh Batch of Questions with Genghis Con
By Cliche Jay
My most singular goal since I’ve started writing about MMA is to entertain those who have the least amount of time. for it. You know who you are. You’re the breadwinner who magically transforms into the baseball coach on the way home. You’re the mom with two jobs who wants to watch a compilation of your fave fighter Chuck Liddell, because he’s so hot, but your beat, and have to get up early again tomorrow. You’re on mandatory overtime, but you’re wondering who won in, ” Dream ” tourney before you read ” Curious George” to your daughter for the third time this week. Because of this, I use a great many highlight reels, and for my money, of which there isn’t any, I always go first to a prolific highlight contributor by the name of Genghis Con. The quality of his videos is beyond all criticism, at least for me. The pictures is good, the music is now, and the subjects are pertinent. Enjoying books, albums, movies, TV shows, always makes me wonder about who’s behind the production. Luckily for us, Mr. Con, who’s real name is Ike is both available, and user-friendly. I sat down with Ike I, in the beautiful Flint Hill’s of Kansas and Ike any of a half dozen places he calls home, and he was kind enough to answer thoroughly and thoughtfully to some of my ham-handed questions.
(The Federation)
CJ: Is there a name other than Genghis you go by? May I use it for this interview or do you prefer we go with G.C.?
Ike: I go by Ike but you can use either.
CJ: How old are you? I see you’ve listed several cities as addresses, where do you hale from?
Ike: I’m 24 and come from Moreno Valley, California but staying in Atlanta right now.
CJ: You & I share in common our first love of music, and our mutual love of MMA. When & how did it occur to you that you were going to make a living in these areas?
Ike: It was 4 years ago when I first started making music and a year later I discovered video editing and feel in love with that too. My goal is to be able to make a living through these avenues but right now, I’m still doing the 9 to 5 and Music & Editing is a side job.
CJ: What kind of education do you have?
Ike: General Education, never choose a major but finished 2 years of College.
CJ: What kind of education, and personal strengths and , or abilities does or would it take for others who’d like to do what you do?what you do?
Ike: I don’t think it necessarily takes an education, but you do have to love what your doing because it takes a lot of time and patience.
CJ: This may kind of be the same question, but what would you say to kids, say from junior high, or high school who are looking to make mixed media, or music production as a career?
Ike: Start early, for music production, learn an instrument and master it. Try to be creative to set yourself apart from others in the same business.
CJ: When and how did you get bit by the MMA bug? What made you love it?
Ike: Throughout High School I would see highlights every now and then from friends who were fans but I never ordered any PPVs. It was the Chuck Liddell vs Vitor Belfort card that was on Fox Sports West that got me. That was the first time I watched an entire card and after that I was hooked, I rented all the old DVDs and started catching up. I became a hardcore fan when I discovered Pride like a year and a half later.
CJ: Do you feel the same about any other sports?
Ike: I like to watch Football and Boxing but not on the level that I love MMA.
CJ: Your work is amazing in that it’s prolific, especially for a young man. Assuming you take time off, what do you do with it? Do you have hobbies or interests outside of music and combat sports?
Ike: Thanks, I love going to the lake and riding Jet Ski’s as often as I can. I’m also kind of a Film geek, I love movies.
CJ: Did you ever consider fighting as a viable profession, or are you more like me, in that you love it, but mostly from the comfort of your recliner, or attending MMA events?
Ike: I plan on finding a gym and training but not for a fight. Just to stay in shape. I’m more comfortable watching it.
(Rashad Evans)
CJ: Of all your work, is there one or two, that you’re absolutely most proud of?
Ike: Probably the first Grand Theft Title video, because the Idea came to me while I was playing the game. It was around 8PM and I went straight to the computer and by the time I looked at the clock again it was 7AM and the video was done. I had a lot of fun doing that video and the reception from the fans for that video made me continue doing the MMA highlights.
CJ: Favorite band or musician, tv program, movie, book?
Ike: Favorite Band or Musician, that’s tough. I would be between 2Pac, Pink Floyd and Gregory Isaacs. Movie – Heat Tv Show – Dexter
CJ: If you had to pick one, who’s your favorite fighter, boxer, and or wrestler ? If you have each, please elucidate.
Ike: My favorite fighter is Joachim Hansen. I like him because of his style, he can fight wherever the fight goes, every fight he’s in is exciting and he’s probably the toughest fighter I’ve seen.
CJ: Lastly, what are your aspirations for the future?
Ike: My aspirations for the future are to shoot an MMA Documentary and move from their to low budget movies and to compose scores for movies.
As you can plainly see Ike is a affable considerate success in the making and living happily ever after in this story would be one of the bigger MMA sites asking Ike to go to work full time for them,( or me for that matter ) or better even yet, a studio providing an internship or job with them, so those of you with a little sway, I’m sure he’d be glad to hear from you. As for me, Ike made it easy for me to shine. If I could just get over all these damn commas, well hell, the world would be my oyster!
And now for an entirely different kind of fight.
